
A research institute and botanical garden located in Rio de Janeiro's Jardim Botânico neighborhood, housing approximately 6,500 plant species across 54 hectares in open air and greenhouses. The garden contains Brazil's largest herbarium with 600,000 dried plant samples and the country's most comprehensive botanical library with over 32,000 volumes, and is responsible for coordinating Brazil's flora species list and evaluating extinction risk for plant species.
