An 18th-century Baroque fountain standing 26.3 metres high and 49 metres wide, designed by Nicola Salvi and completed in 1762. Visitors come to see its elaborate sculptural decorations, including a central statue of Oceanus, and to throw coins into its waters as part of a Roman tradition. The fountain marks the endpoint of the ancient Acqua Vergine aqueduct and is one of the most famous fountains in the world.
