Sea Cliffs and Sea Caves by Outrigger, Hanavave to Omoa

Paddle or motor along Fatu Hiva's roadless southern coastline, where sheer green cliffs drop straight into the Pacific and hide sea caves accessible only from the water.

What to expect

A local boatman threads along a coastline with no road access, cliffs rising hundreds of feet directly from deep water, waterfalls dropping straight into the sea after rain. You'll stop to swim or snorkel at a cave mouth and can often spot manta rays or spinner dolphins in the channel. The boat can loop between Omoa and Hanavave, effectively giving you both villages' coastal scenery in one outing.

Good to know

Best in calmer morning seas; afternoon swell picks up. Bring reef shoes and a dry bag, there's no dock at the cave stops.
