Old Grimsby to Old Blockhouse Coastal Walk

A self-guided but expertly mapped coastal walk to the crumbling Old Blockhouse fort, Tresco's quietest and most overlooked headland.

What to expect

From Old Grimsby quay, a gentle coastal path climbs past heather and gorse to the low Tudor-era Blockhouse ruin, built to guard the channel between Tresco and Tean. From the top you get a genuinely spectacular, uncrowded panorama over the other islands and out to the Atlantic. Few day-trippers make it this far, so it's usually just you, the birds and the wind.

Good to know

Pick up a free island map at the quay information point; the walk takes about 45 minutes each way at an easy pace, well within a half-day call.
