What to expect
The museum, housed in a restored watermill at Weisdale, displays fine examples of Fair Isle and Shetland lace so delicate it can pass through a wedding ring. In the small-group workshop, a local knitter teaches basic lace or colourwork techniques using traditional Shetland wool, explaining how patterns were historically passed down through families. You leave with a swatch of your own work and a genuine sense of a craft still practised daily on the islands.

About 20 minutes' drive from Lerwick; book the workshop slot in advance as space is limited to small tables. Combine with the on-site café for lunch before heading back to the ship.
