Paddle a stable sit-on-top kayak across the flat, turquoise waters of Langebaan Lagoon to a small island, weaving past wading birds and sandbanks that shift with the tide.
What to expect
You launch from the beachfront in front of Langebaan village and paddle out into open lagoon, the water so shallow and clear you can watch your shadow glide over the sand below. Midway you beach on a small island for a break, with views back to the pastel-painted village. Curlews, flamingos, and oystercatchers are common sightings along the way.
Good to know
Best 1.5-2 hours either side of high tide when the crossing channel is deep enough; check tide tables before booking. Reef shoes recommended; sun protection essential as there's no shade on the water.
