Glide across Langebaan Lagoon's famously calm, warm shallows on a paddleboard, one of the flattest and clearest stretches of water on the entire South African coast.
What to expect
You start in the shallow water directly off the main beach, with the instructor steadying the board while you find your balance. Once up, you paddle out over sand so pale the water looks Caribbean-blue, with the West Coast National Park's dunes as a backdrop. Confident paddlers can push further out for solitude and birdlife; beginners simply enjoy the stillness close to shore.
Good to know
Mornings are calmest before the afternoon wind (the 'Cape Doctor') picks up; book before 11am for the smoothest water.
