Glide above Tokushima on the iconic Bizan Ropeway to a summit that reveals Shikoku's mountain spine, the Yoshino River delta, and the Naruto Strait in one sweeping panorama. Descend to the serene, moss-carpeted grounds of Tokushima Castle for a meditative stroll through Japan's feudal past — all within the city itself.
What to expect
The four-minute aerial cable car ascent delivers panoramic views of the city grid dissolving into the blue Pacific. At the summit, forested walking paths lead to observation decks and a small shrine draped in cedar silence. Back at street level, Tokushima Castle's Senjiko-style stroll garden dates to the 1600s and features sculpted stone lanterns reflected in mirror-still water. The Awa Odori Kaikan performance hall is at the ropeway base station — combine both for a complete morning.
Good to know
The ropeway base station (inside Awa Odori Kaikan) is a 10-min taxi ride from the pier. Both attractions open from 09:00. The combined visit takes 2–2.5 hours at a civilised pace, leaving the afternoon free. Fine weather is essential for the summit panorama — check the forecast and prioritise on clear days.
