Langkawi's only marine park — a protected coral garden 30km offshore — delivers technicolour reef fish, reef sharks, and sea turtles in gin-clear Andaman waters. This is the finest snorkelling and diving in northern Malaysia, full stop.
What to expect
A 45-minute catamaran crossing delivers you to Pulau Payar's moored floating platform, your base for exploring three distinct reef zones. Snorkellers drift over healthy hard and soft corals teeming with parrotfish, angelfish, and blacktip reef sharks that cruise casually past. Divers can descend to 18m for encounters with moray eels and sea turtles. A buffet seafood lunch on the platform, with the open Andaman Sea on every horizon, is an experience unto itself. The return sail often catches a perfect late-afternoon breeze.
Good to know
Departs Kuah Jetty at 9:30 AM, returns by 3:30–4 PM — well within all-aboard. Pre-book well ahead as capacity is strictly limited by the marine park authority. Bring reef-safe sunscreen only; chemical sunscreen is prohibited in the park. Not recommended in rough-sea months (Oct–Nov).
