What to expect
You walk through a reconstructed Viking port complete with a chieftain's hall, a church, and artisan workshops staffed by interpreters in period dress. The highlight is boarding the Snorri — a full-scale replica knarr that actually sailed the Atlantic — and learning navigation by stars from a Norse "steersman." Blacksmiths demonstrate the same bog-iron smelting techniques used at the original Vinland settlement. The ratio of interpreters to visitors is remarkably low, ensuring genuine personal interaction.

Norstead is a 5-minute drive or 25-minute walk from the NHS site — combine both for a full-day immersion. Norstead is typically open mid-June through early October.
