Board a Zodiac rigid inflatable and power out into Iceberg Alley — the world's most accessible parade of 10,000-year-old Greenland icebergs — while humpback and minke whales breach and feed alongside. Pure, visceral wilderness.
What to expect
Your experienced skipper threads the Zodiac through a seascape of drifting blue-white bergs, some five storeys high, some tabular and luminous green at the waterline. Humpbacks routinely surface within boat-lengths, and fin and minke whales are common throughout summer. The skipper narrates the science of iceberg formation, calving, and drift from Greenland — a 10,000-year journey. Expect salt spray, binoculars, and the kind of silence that only the open North Atlantic delivers.
Good to know
St. Anthony Harbour is approximately 30–40 minutes by road from the tender pier — arrange a private transfer or hire a local driver in advance. Tours run June–August (peak iceberg season is May–June; whales peak July–August). Wear layers and a waterproof outer shell — it is cold on the water even in summer. Book directly with Northland Discovery as early as possible; spaces are limited.
