Tackle Bali's most iconic volcano before dawn and reach the 1,717 m rim just as sunrise ignites the caldera lake and distant Mount Agung. A primal, once-in-a-lifetime high that no beach club can replicate.
What to expect
Departure from Benoa is around 01:00–02:00 to make the pre-dawn start at Toya Bungkah village. Your certified guide leads a moderate 2-hour trail through hardened lava flows and forest to the crater rim, arriving in darkness moments before the sky cracks open with colour. Breakfast — eggs and bananas steam-heated in volcanic vents — is a surreal summit ritual. On descent, enjoy sweeping views over Lake Batur and the valley before a comfortable private transfer back to port, typically arriving by 12:00–13:00.
Good to know
This excursion requires an overnight port call or a very early departure — verify your ship's arrival time (ideally docked by midnight). The hike is moderate fitness; no technical climbing required. Temperatures at the summit can be 10–15°C — pack layers and sturdy trainers. All crater guide fees and PHRI trekking permits are included. Book at least two weeks ahead.
