Soar above Cochem's rooftops on the iconic open-air chairlift to the Pinnerkreuz hilltop viewpoint. The bird's-eye panorama over the Moselle's oxbow bend, castle, and vineyard amphitheatre is the single most spectacular view in the entire valley.
What to expect
The Sesselbahn (chairlift) station sits just minutes from the Old Town centre and whisks riders individually skyward through the vines on open single chairs, a delightfully retro and exhilarating experience. At the summit, the Pinnerkreuz cross stands at 290 metres above sea level with an utterly unobstructed 360° view: the Moselle looping below, the Reichsburg rising from its vineyard hill, and church steeples threading through red-roofed streets. The hilltop Panorama-Café serves local wines and Kaffee und Kuchen — the perfect pause before the gentle ride back down. Return trip takes around 45 minutes total.
Good to know
The chairlift operates April through October; check seasonal hours online. It is a 5-minute walk from Cochem Marktplatz. No advance booking required — simply arrive and ride. Ideal in the early morning or late afternoon when light is golden. Not recommended in strong winds or heavy rain.
