Glide deep into the secret inlets, mangrove creeks and towering ochre escarpments of the Buccaneer Archipelago aboard a private Zodiac with a Kimberley expedition guide. This is the untouched Kimberley coast at water level — raw, silent and utterly humbling.
What to expect
Your Zodiac departs at the precise tidal window that unlocks the most spectacular creek passages — timing everything here is an art form your guide has spent years perfecting. Sheer sandstone walls rise 30–40 metres on either side as you drift into flooded gorges accessible only by small boat. Saltwater crocodiles bask on exposed mudflats while ospreys wheel overhead, and the guide points out ancient Wandjina rock art barely visible in cliff overhangs above the waterline. Cold drinks and charcuterie platters are served anchored inside a cathedral-like sea cave as the light shifts through the rock aperture.
Good to know
Private charter must be arranged directly in advance; the operator will coordinate with your ship's shore team for Zodiac pick-up/drop-off logistics. Wear quick-dry clothes and reef-safe sunscreen; the Kimberley sun is fierce even in the dry season. Crocodile safety briefing is provided — follow all guide instructions at water's edge.
