Pristine Lagoon Snorkel: Ashmore Reef Coral Bommies

Drift through gin-clear water above untouched coral bommies teeming with sea turtles, reef sharks, and iridescent fish in one of Australia's most remote marine parks. This is world-class snorkelling at its most raw and unspoiled.

What to expect

Zodiacs ferry you from the vessel to the outer lagoon edge, where visibility routinely exceeds 20 metres. Guides point out green sea turtles resting on coral heads, white-tip reef sharks cruising the sandy channels, and vast schools of fusiliers catching the current. The calm, sheltered lagoon means even novice snorkellers feel completely at ease. Sessions typically last 90 minutes, with time to surface, rest on the Zodiac, and re-enter at a second site.

Good to know

Ashmore Reef is a Commonwealth Marine Reserve — entry is strictly managed. Bring your own prescription mask if needed; wetsuits are recommended even in warm water for coral protection. All-aboard times must be respected as the reef is an anchorage, not a port.
