Speed offshore aboard a rigid inflatable with a marine biologist to intercept spinner dolphins, whale sharks, and — in season — humpback whales in the warm Mozambique Channel. Few coastlines on Earth offer this range of megafauna so close to port.
What to expect
Depart the estuary mouth at speed and head offshore to where warm blue water meets a coastal upwelling. Spinner dolphins are almost guaranteed, often bow-riding for minutes. Between July and October, humpbacks breach close enough to feel the spray; whale sharks cruise year-round. Your guide provides a full species debrief and underwater photography tips before any swim. Cold towels and local fruit are served on the return run.
Good to know
Humpback whale season peaks July–October; whale sharks are present year-round but most abundant October–March. The excursion runs 3–4 hours. Guests prone to seasickness should take medication beforehand; seas can be lively outside the estuary.
