Step inside the living tradition of Greenlandic dogsled culture with a master musher: meet, handle, and learn the language of East Greenland sled dogs — the purest working breed on the planet. In summer, the experience centres on kennel life, harness craft, and storytelling.
What to expect
You arrive at the kennel on the hillside above town to be greeted by a chorus of howling East Greenlandic sled dogs, a breed protected by law and found nowhere else in such purity. The musher introduces each dog by name and role in the team, explaining the hierarchy and communication signals. You learn to fit a harness and hear stories of multi-day winter hunting expeditions across sea ice. Traditional carved bone and ivory equipment is explained in context. The session closes with Greenlandic coffee and dried musk ox meat served in the musher's home.
Good to know
This is a summer kennel visit, not a dogsled ride (ice travel is winter only). Still deeply moving and culturally rich. Ideal for 2–6 guests. Book via the Visit Greenland Ittoqqortoormiit operator page; mention your all-aboard time so the musher tailors the session length accordingly.
