What to expect
The trail climbs steeply from the village edge through lichen-covered scree and carpets of crowberry and Arctic willow before levelling onto an exposed ridge with 360-degree views: the sound below dotted with ice floes, Greenland's interior ice cap glinting on the far horizon, and the village a tiny jewel of colour against the grey-green rock. Your guide narrates the geological history — Scoresby Sound is a rift valley more than 350 km long — and points out nesting sites of Arctic tern colonies. The descent follows a different route past traditional hunting blinds still used by local hunters today. Total elevation gain is approximately 250 metres.

Moderate fitness required — the ascent is steep for the first 20 minutes. Wear sturdy waterproof hiking boots and carry wind and rain layers regardless of morning conditions (weather changes rapidly). Groups capped at 8.
