Journey to the lush sister island of Salina — the green jewel of the Aeolians — to taste its legendary Malvasia delle Lipari DOC, one of Italy's most prized and ancient amber dessert wines, poured by the family producers who make it.
What to expect
The hydrofoil from Lipari to Santa Marina Salina takes just 20 minutes, and a short taxi ride brings you to Capofaro's sun-drenched terraced vineyards overlooking the sea. Your host pours three to four expressions of Malvasia delle Lipari alongside Aeolian capers, local cheeses, and sun-dried tomatoes. The estate's sommelier explains why volcanic soil and sea winds create this wine's uniquely aromatic, golden character. Time permitting, stroll the vine rows and enjoy the jaw-dropping view over Panarea and Stromboli.
Good to know
Salina is served by regular hydrofoil from Lipari (approx. EUR 10–15 return; journey 20–40 min). Book estate tastings directly with Capofaro well in advance — this is a boutique property with limited daily slots. Allow at least 3.5–4 hours for the round-trip island visit. Pairs beautifully with a pre-booked lunch at the estate's restaurant.
