Slip beneath the glittering surface of the Aeolian Marine Reserve to explore sea caves, ancient obsidian outcrops and thriving Posidonia meadows teeming with Mediterranean marine life — guided by a local marine naturalist on a private small-group boat.
What to expect
Departing from Marina Corta on a private rigid inflatable, your marine guide navigates to the Grotta del Bue Marino — a cathedral-like sea cave glowing cobalt from within — where you snorkel through kaleidoscopic rock formations. Next, the boat moves to the obsidian coastline where ancient black volcanic glass forms the seabed, a surreal and uniquely Aeolian experience. The guide identifies sea bream, octopus, star coral and Posidonia sea grass throughout. High-quality mask, fin and snorkel sets are provided; wetsuits available.
Good to know
No scuba certification required — strong swimmers of any age can participate. Book directly with Da Massimo in advance, especially July–August. Half-day excursions (3–4 hours) work perfectly for cruise schedules. All equipment is top-quality; personal underwater cameras are welcome. Check sea conditions the day before — excursions may be rescheduled in high winds.
