Zoo am Meer: Arctic Wildlife on the North Sea Shore

One of Europe's most beautifully sited small zoos, perched right on the North Sea waterfront, specialises in polar and Arctic species — polar bears, walruses, Arctic foxes and playful seals — with a privileged, intimate viewing experience.

What to expect

The star residents are the polar bears, housed in a state-of-the-art naturalistic enclosure where they swim, dive and play at remarkably close range. Walruses loll on rocky outcrops while playful harbour seals perform their acrobatics in clear-water tanks. Arctic foxes, snowy owls and a host of Nordic species complete the Arctic theme. The promenade location means you can combine the zoo with a leisurely stroll along the harbourfront before or after. Plan one and a half to two hours.
