HarborBus Port Safari: Deep Inside a Supertanker Terminal

Ride the official Bremerhaven HarborBus into the restricted heart of the world's third-largest vehicle-export port — massive car-carrier berths, container terminals and offshore wind staging areas that no private vehicle can access.

What to expect

The specially permitted bus rolls through the vast BLG AutoTerminal, where seas of gleaming new vehicles — Porsches, BMWs, Volkswagens — stretch to the horizon awaiting loading onto car-carrier vessels the size of apartment blocks. Expert guides explain the port's logistics, its offshore wind energy role and its economic significance as commentary rolls through the tour. Stopping points allow photography of the colossal container cranes and vessels up close. The entire experience lasts approximately 90 minutes and departs from the Havenwelten area.

Good to know

Tours run on set departure times; check and pre-book on the official Bremerhaven.de site as capacity is limited. Comfortable walking shoes recommended for any stop-and-walk segments. Departures are from the Havenwelten quay — combine with the Klimahaus or Maritime Museum for a full day. Confirm the current season schedule before your port call.
