From Marina Grande you are not yet in town. You must take the funicular (about 5 minutes, €1.80), a taxi (€15-20), or walk a steep path (20-30 minutes uphill). For most experienced cruisers the tight call is the half-day or full-day independent mix. The ship wins only when you value zero planning and guaranteed return over choice and cost. Otherwise the direct operators—Discovery Capri for the boat ride and Mount Solaro Chair Lift for the scenic option—deliver comparable experiences at a fraction of the price.
Take the first available tender. Head straight to Capri & Anacapri: Guided Tour with Chairlift to Mount Solaro. Work backwards: aim to be back at Marina Grande no later than 90 minutes before all-aboard. That usually means finishing the chairlift and guided portion by early afternoon and skipping any sit-down lunch or Blue Grotto attempt.
Skip the longer Small Group Capri Island Boat Ride with Swimming and Limoncello and the $1,405 boat tour entirely; both need more sea time than a half day comfortably allows after tendering. A quick wine tasting is also too rushed. The guided tour with chairlift gives the essential views and island orientation without overcommitting the clock.
Early tender to Small Group Capri Island Boat Ride with Swimming and Limoncello in the morning, allowing time for the swim stop and limoncello. Return to Marina Grande, take the funicular up, then do Capri & Anacapri: Guided Tour with Chairlift to Mount Solaro in the afternoon. Skip Capri Island with a Local Expert Guide at $609 per person; it overlaps too much with the guided tour and boat ride at triple the cost. The $1,405 3-Hour Island Boat Tour is only worth it if you want the ship’s guarantee and are willing to pay for it.
If I could pick only one, I would take the Small Group Capri Island Boat Ride with Swimming and Limoncello. At roughly $104 per person it is the clearest demonstration of the shore-excursion markup: same water-level views and swim stop that the ship sells for many times more, run by an operator with strong reviews, and it still leaves the whole afternoon free for the chairlift or wine tasting.
