Rouen is a river port. Ships dock alongside at one of two Seine terminals west or southwest of the centre. It is not a tender port. From the gangway you are on solid ground immediately.
The walk to the historic old town takes about 25 minutes. It is straightforward but passes through modern areas before the half-timbered streets begin. A taxi from the terminal costs roughly €10–15 and takes 10–12 minutes. Many lines, including Viking River, AmaWaterways and Avalon, provide a shuttle; check your daily programme for times and whether it is free.
All-aboard is typically 30 minutes before sail-away. Confirm the exact time on your ship because river schedules can shift with tides. The trap first-timers fall into here is assuming the ship berths in the middle of the medieval quarter. It does not. Underestimate the initial leg and you will start the day already behind, especially if you have a morning D-Day tour or a timed slot at the Historial Jeanne d’Arc.

Assume all-aboard at 16:30. Work backwards. Book the Unique Joan of Arc immersive tour in Rouen with an actress for a 10:00 start (run by Historial Jeanne d’Arc). It finishes around 12:00. Walk the old town, have lunch, and be back at the ship by 15:30. Skip everything else. The D-Day trips are too far for a half day; Giverny is a full-day commitment. This plan keeps you inside Rouen, where the ship cannot match the price or timing flexibility.

At €70 per person it is the cheapest listed option, run by the actual museum with a 4.60 rating from 3,000 reviews, and it uses an actress in situ. Everything else on the page either costs ten times as much or requires a long coach ride.
