The Blue Cave boat trip is a half-day excursion that takes you just outside Dubrovnik to a striking sea cave where sunlight turns the water electric blue. Most tours visit two or three islands, stopping at the Blue Cave (you swim or float through on a small boat), the Green Cave for snorkeling, and Šunj Beach on Lopud for swimming and lunch. Expect about four hours on the water with 30–50 minutes at each stop. The cave itself is genuinely beautiful on a sunny day, but it gets crowded and the experience is more fun than peaceful. The boat rides between spots offer great views of the Elaphiti Islands.
Best time is May–June or September–early October when the sea is calm, crowds are lighter, and prices are lower. July and August are hotter, busier, and rougher if the wind picks up. Expect to pay around €45–65 per person for a small-group tour that includes snorkel gear, fuel, and a basic drink or snack. Private tours start around €250–350 for up to six people.
Pick a morning departure so the sun lights up the cave properly and you avoid the worst afternoon heat. Skip the biggest party boats if you want space to swim comfortably; smaller groups (under 12) are noticeably better. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a towel, and cash for any beach drinks or lunch—you’ll appreciate both after swimming.
