Should You Take a Boat Tour from Manila?

Most boat tours from Manila are actually day trips that take you 2–4 hours outside the city by van before you even step on a boat. Expect either a snorkeling trip to Anilao’s reefs or the classic Pagsanjan Falls run with its bamboo rafts and river paddling. The actual “boat” part is usually the smaller, more enjoyable portion of a long day. Snorkeling versions give you decent coral and fish if the visibility cooperates; the falls trip is more about the scenic river ride and swimming under the cascades. Both are tourist-oriented but still feel like a proper escape from Manila’s traffic and heat.

The best time is December to May when the weather is dry and seas are calmer. June to October brings rougher water and frequent cancellations, especially for snorkeling. Expect to pay around $80–$150 per person for a small-group day tour that includes transport, boat fees, lunch, and basic gear. Private tours or upgraded packages push toward the higher end.

Pick the Pagsanjan combo if you want scenery and a bit of adventure; skip the overly packed group snorkel trips during peak weekends—they feel rushed and the reefs get crowded. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, motion sickness tablets if you’re sensitive, and don’t expect luxury. It’s a solid day out if you’re in Manila for a week or more and need a break from the city.
