Catamaran Sailing in Aruba: Worth It?

A typical catamaran trip in Aruba lasts 3–4 hours and follows the protected leeward coast. You’ll get steady trade winds, flat water, and two or three snorkel stops over shallow reefs. The boat usually carries 20–40 people; expect loud music, an open bar with rum punch, and a lunch or snack. The ride is comfortable even if you’re new to sailing, but it’s a shared social experience, not a quiet sunset cruise. Visibility is usually excellent, though the reefs themselves are only average by Caribbean standards.

Best time is January through April when winds are strongest and rain is rare. July to November is calmer but sees more brief showers and occasional rougher days. Expect to pay around $75–$130 per person for a standard group afternoon sail with snorkeling and drinks. Private charters start at roughly $800 for the boat.

Pick a mid-afternoon departure if you want the calmest water and best light for snorkeling. Skip the ones that advertise “sunset and dinner” unless you don’t mind eating after dark on a moving boat with everyone already a few drinks in. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a waterproof phone pouch, and a light jacket for the ride back once the sun drops.
