Catamaran Snorkel in Nassau: Worth It?

A typical catamaran snorkel trip from Nassau takes you to the reefs around Athol Island or nearby spots. You’ll sail or motor out for 45–90 minutes, snorkel for about an hour over shallow coral gardens, then usually have a second stop or just sail back while the crew serves drinks. The water is warm and clear most of the year; you’ll see lots of colorful fish, small rays, and decent coral. It’s a relaxed group experience—20 to 40 people is common—not a private wilderness trip. Expect some rolling motion on the way out and back, especially if the wind picks up.

Best time is December through April when the weather is coolest and seas are usually calmest. Summer and early fall can be hot, humid, and more prone to afternoon showers or rougher water. Expect to pay around $80–$130 per person for a half-day tour that includes snorkel gear, a guide, and an open bar (rum punch, beer, soft drinks).
