Montego Bay Dolphin Swim: What You Should Know

A dolphin swim in Montego Bay is a structured, shallow-water program where you stand in waist-to-chest deep water and interact with bottlenose dolphins under trainer supervision. Expect about 20–30 minutes in the water: you’ll stroke their skin, give a hand signal for them to “kiss” you, and usually get a dorsal-fin pull across the pool. It’s fun and safe for most ages (typically 5+), but it feels more like an organized animal encounter than a wild swim. The dolphins are well-trained, the water is clear, and groups rotate through in batches so it never feels overcrowded if you pick the right session.

The best time is December through April when the weather is driest and seas are calmer. Expect to pay around $150–$280 per person depending on whether you choose the basic “encounter” or the longer “swim and play” program that includes more time and photos. Book a morning slot; the animals are more energetic and crowds are lighter.

Tip: Skip the photo packages sold on-site – they’re overpriced. Use your own waterproof camera or GoPro instead. Also skip the “trainer for a day” add-ons unless you really love marine mammals; the standard swim gives you most of the fun without the extra cost and time commitment.
