It’s not a luxury cruise — the boats are functional, sometimes crowded, and the narration (if any) is usually mediocre. You’ll share space with commuters, families, and other visitors. The experience feels more authentic than a big sightseeing boat but less polished.

Best time is late spring through early fall, especially May, September, or October when the weather is mild and the water isn’t brutally choppy. Summer evenings around sunset are popular but expect crowds and higher prices. Winter rides can be dramatic but cold and windy.
