Field Museum Chicago: Worth Visiting?

The Field Museum is a huge, old-school natural history museum packed with dinosaur skeletons, animal dioramas, ancient artifacts, and geological displays. Expect a full day if you want to see it properly; the place is enormous and somewhat dimly lit in classic museum style. The star attractions are the dinosaur halls (Sue the T. rex is impressive) and the Egyptian mummy collection. It’s educational without being stuffy, but it can feel crowded near popular exhibits and the sheer size means your feet will get tired.

Best time to visit is weekdays in spring or fall to avoid summer crowds and winter cold. Expect to pay around $25–35 per adult for basic admission, more if you add special exhibits or the 3D theater. Chicago residents get discounts. One honest tip: prioritize the dinosaur and ancient civilizations halls and skip the over-hyped “Underground Adventure” exhibit—it’s dated and not worth the extra time. Wear comfortable shoes and consider bringing snacks since the on-site food is mediocre and expensive.
