The Green Grotto is a limestone cave system near Ocho Rios with underground pools, stalactites, and a short boat ride on an emerald lake inside. From Montego Bay expect a 75-minute drive each way. The actual cave tour lasts about 45 minutes with a guide who explains the geology and points out formations; it’s mildly interesting but not mind-blowing. Most people combine it with Dunn’s River Falls or a beach stop, turning it into a half-day outing. The path is mostly flat and lit, though it can be slippery and humid. It’s fine for all ages including kids, but anyone with serious mobility issues should skip the boat section.
Best time is December to mid-April when crowds are manageable and rain is less likely to make the steps slick. Expect to pay around $80–$130 per person depending on whether you go in a small group tour, private transfer, or combo package with Dunn’s River. Private tours sit at the higher end but give you flexibility on timing.
Tip: Choose the morning slot to avoid the worst heat and the afternoon cruise-ship rush. Skip the overpriced “VIP” add-ons at the cave entrance; the standard guided walk is plenty. Bring water shoes if you plan to continue to Dunn’s River afterward—otherwise trainers with good grip are fine.
