Horseback Riding in Aruba: Worth It?

Expect a mix of arid countryside, short stretches of beach, and plenty of photo ops with the sea in the background. Most rides last 60-90 minutes and move at a gentle pace; don't expect galloping along the surf like in movies. The horses are generally calm and well-trained for tourists, the terrain is rocky and dry, and you'll probably share the group with 6-12 other riders. It's a pleasant, low-key way to see parts of the island you won't reach by rental car, especially the coastline north of Palm Beach or inside Arikok National Park.

Best time is January through April when it's cooler and drier. Summer and early fall can be brutally hot and the horses tire faster. Expect to pay around $90-130 per person for a standard ride; longer or private options push toward $150-180. Book morning slots if you can—it's cooler for both you and the horse.

Pick a ride that includes beach time if you want the classic photos; skip anything advertised as "sunset" unless you're okay riding in the dark on the way back. Wear long pants and closed shoes even if it's hot—shorts and sandals are a bad idea on these trails.
