Huaca Pucllana is a 1,500-year-old adobe pyramid right in the middle of Miraflores. Expect a compact archaeological site with the massive stepped structure surrounded by modern apartment buildings – the contrast is striking. Guided tours last about 45-60 minutes and walk you around the exterior, through some excavated sections, and past a small museum showing pottery and textiles. It's interesting rather than mind-blowing; you'll learn about the Lima culture that predates the Incas and see how the pyramid was used for ceremonies and burials. The on-site restaurant is surprisingly good if you want to eat afterwards with a view of the lit-up huaca.
Best time to visit is during the shoulder seasons (April-May or October-November) when Lima is less overcast and crowds are thinner. Avoid midday in summer when it can feel brutally hot with no shade. Expect to pay around $8-15 for entry and a basic guided tour; adding transport or combining it with a longer city tour pushes it to $40-70 per person. Skip the full-day city tours that only give it 30 minutes – better to visit independently or on a half-day option so you have time to wander Miraflores afterwards. Go late afternoon, stay for sunset, then have dinner at the site restaurant if your budget allows.
