A typical Dubrovnik kayak tour lasts 2–3 hours and takes you along the city walls, often out to Lokrum island or nearby caves. You’ll paddle in stable sit-on-top kayaks, usually in small groups. Expect a mix of easy coastal paddling, some light snorkeling if included, and decent exercise. The views of the Old Town from the water are genuinely impressive, especially at sunset when the light hits the stone walls. It’s suitable for beginners; guides give basic instruction and stick close. Water is clear and clean, but it can get choppy if the wind picks up.
Best time is late spring (May–June) or early fall (September–October). Summers are hot, crowded, and the sea is busy with boats. Expect to pay around $35–65 per person for a standard group tour; sunset or private options sit at the higher end. Wine and snacks sometimes come with sunset trips.
Pick a smaller-group tour if you can — you’ll get better photos and less waiting around. Skip anything that promises “hidden beaches” — most are just small rocky coves everyone visits. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a towel, and a dry bag if you have one. If you’re reasonably fit and enjoy being on the water, it’s one of the better ways to see Dubrovnik from a different angle.
