Kayaking in Los Cabos: Worth It?

A typical Los Cabos kayak tour lasts 2–3 hours and takes you paddling near the famous Arch, often stopping at Lovers Beach or one of the calmer bays like Santa María or Chileno for snorkeling. Expect clear water, lots of sea lions, and dramatic rock formations up close. The experience is mostly gentle paddling with some guided snorkel time; it’s not a hardcore workout but you will get a decent upper-body session. Groups are usually small (8–15 people), and boats follow you in a support vessel. It’s a solid way to see the coastline without being stuck on a crowded booze cruise.

Best time is December through April when seas are calmer and marine life is most active. Summer and early fall can be hot, windy, and have rougher water that leads to cancellations. Expect to pay around $85–$130 per person for a standard half-day tour that includes kayak, snorkel gear, guide, and usually a snack or light lunch. Private options run significantly higher.

Pick a tour that goes to Santa María or Chileno Bay if you actually care about snorkeling; the Arch tours can get crowded and the snorkeling there is average. Skip anything marketed as a “sunset kayak tour” unless you’re okay with fighting wind and waves on the way back in the dark.
