Cartagena Nightlife Bar Crawl: Worth It?

A Cartagena bar crawl is exactly what you think: a group of travelers (mostly 20s-30s) walking between 4-6 bars and clubs in the Old City and Getsemaní. Expect loud reggaeton, cheap shots, dancing, and a mix of locals and internationals. The vibe is fun and social but rarely sophisticated. Getsemaní tends to feel more authentic and less touristy than the walled city spots. Most nights end at a club around 1-2am. It’s a decent way to meet people quickly if you’re traveling solo or in a small group, but it can feel chaotic and repetitive if you’re not in party mode.

Best time is December to March when the weather is driest and the city is lively without being unbearable. Avoid the peak of rainy season (Sept-Oct) and Carnaval if you don’t like total madness. Expect to pay around $25-45 USD for a standard crawl including a few drinks or shots. Private or more upscale versions can push $60+. Drinks outside the tour are on you and add up fast.

Tip: Pick a crawl that starts in Getsemaní and ends in the Old City — better energy flow. Skip anything promising “free shots all night” or dancing lessons; they’re usually rushed and cringey. Go with the mindset that it’s a social kickstart, not a refined night out.
