Rose Hall Great House: Worth Visiting?

Rose Hall is a restored 18th-century great house sitting on a hill outside Montego Bay. Expect a 45-minute guided walkthrough covering the history of the plantation, the infamous Annie Palmer legend, and decent period furniture. The house itself is attractive but not enormous; the real draw is the story and the views over the coast. Day tours are straightforward and family-friendly. The nighttime "haunted" version adds theatrical lighting, actors, and a bit more drama in the darker rooms – it's more entertaining than scary for most adults. Both versions cover the same core house; the night tour simply layers on atmosphere.

Best time is December to April when crowds are manageable and rain is less likely. Expect to pay around $50–70 for a standard daytime ticket including transport from your hotel. The evening haunted tour runs $90–130 depending on inclusions and group size. One honest tip: skip the overpriced photo stops with costumed performers outside and just enjoy the grounds at your own pace. If you're short on time or energy, the daytime tour is perfectly fine and saves both money and a late night. The full evening package can be a long 5–6 hours if it includes dinner and transport, so only book that if you actually want the extended experience.
