A full-day Similan Islands tour from Phuket is a long but rewarding trip. You’ll spend about 1.5–2 hours each way on a speedboat, then visit 3–4 islands with two or three snorkeling stops and beach time. The water is usually clear, the reefs healthy, and the white-sand beaches genuinely beautiful. Expect a packed itinerary: you’ll share the sites with other boats, especially in high season. Lunch is included, usually served on one of the islands. It’s a solid day out if you want good snorkeling without committing to a multi-day liveaboard.
The best time is December to April when the Andaman Sea is calmest and visibility is excellent. The parks are closed May–October. Expect to pay around $120–$180 per person from Phuket, including transfers, gear, lunch and national park fees. Speedboat tours are faster but bumpier; catamaran options are more stable but take longer.
Honest tip: choose a smaller group tour (under 30 people) if possible – you’ll get more snorkeling time and less crowding on the beaches. Skip trying to visit both Similan and Surin islands in one day; it’s too rushed. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, motion sickness tablets if you’re sensitive, and don’t expect total solitude.
