Skiing from Santiago means a full-day trip into the Andes, usually to Valle Nevado or nearby Farellones. Expect 1.5–2 hours each way on winding mountain roads that can get slow with traffic or snow. The resorts are decent by South American standards but smaller and less developed than major European or North American ones. The skiing itself is fine for a day or two: good views, reliable snow in season, and a mix of groomed runs and off-piste options. It’s not a ski holiday destination, but a solid one-day adventure if you’re already in the city. Altitude is noticeable (around 3000m+), so take it easy if you’re not acclimatized.

Best time is mid-June to mid-September, with July and August offering the most consistent snow. Expect to pay around $180–350 per person for a full-day guided trip from Santiago that includes transport, lift ticket, and basic gear rental. Private transfers and lessons push it toward the higher end. Food and drinks on the mountain are expensive.

Honest tips: Go mid-week if possible – weekends get very crowded with locals. Skip trying to rent a car and drive yourself; the roads are narrow, parking is limited, and the return trip after a day of skiing is tiring.
