A typical Montego Bay snorkeling cruise puts 20-50 people on a catamaran for a half-day trip. You sail along the coast for 30-45 minutes, stop at one or two shallow reef spots for snorkeling (usually 30-40 minutes total in the water), then spend the rest of the time sailing back while the crew serves drinks. The water is warm and clear enough to see decent fish and small coral, but these are not pristine remote reefs. It’s more of a fun, social boat ride with a swim than a serious snorkeling expedition. Expect loud music on most boats once the bar opens after the second stop.

Best time is December through April when the water is calmest and visibility is usually 40-60ft. Avoid June-November if you hate rough seas or heavy rain risk. Expect to pay around $80–$130 per person including snorkel gear, drinks, and lunch. Private or small-group options push toward the higher end.

Pick the shorter morning trips if you want calmer water and less party atmosphere. Skip anything advertised as a “floating party” if you mainly care about seeing marine life; the music and drinking crowd can make the actual snorkeling feel rushed.
