Snuba Diving in Aruba: Worth It?

Snuba is basically scuba diving without the heavy tank on your back. You breathe through a long hose connected to a tank that floats on a raft above you, giving you about 20-25 minutes underwater at 10-20 feet. In Aruba the water is warm, clear, and calm on the leeward side. You’ll drift along reefs with parrotfish, sergeant majors, and the occasional turtle or ray. It’s much easier than scuba (no certification needed) but still gives you that weightless feeling. The tours usually combine a short boat ride, a briefing, and one or two shallow dives. Expect some group time and a guide who keeps everyone close.

The best time is April through October when the seas are flattest and visibility is often 60-100 feet. Avoid January and February if possible; the trade winds can make the surface choppy and reduce clarity. Expect to pay around $80–$130 per person depending on whether it’s a basic reef trip or one that includes a wreck or natural pool stop. The more stops and smaller the group, the higher the price.

Tip: Choose the reef-only or reef-plus-wreck option and skip anything that adds a long land tour or cave swimming unless you specifically want that. The underwater part is the highlight; the rest is mostly just transportation. Bring your own water and reef-safe sunscreen; the boats are basic and rarely have much shade.
