Should You Do a Star Tour in LA?

A star tour in Los Angeles is basically a bus or van ride that cruises past the homes of celebrities in Beverly Hills, Holmby Hills, and along the Sunset Strip, with occasional stops at the Hollywood Walk of Fame or outside famous landmarks like the Beverly Hills Hotel. Expect to spend about two hours hearing stories (some true, many exaggerated) while a guide points out gated mansions you can barely see from the street. It's a mix of mild entertainment, people-watching, and realizing how little you actually glimpse of real celebrity life. The experience is very much surface-level LA: traffic, palm trees, and a lot of "that house once belonged to..." trivia.

The best time is spring or fall when the weather is comfortable and traffic isn't at its worst. Summer gets hot and crowded; winter can be rainy. Expect to pay around $60–$110 per person depending on whether you choose a basic van tour or a slightly upgraded option with a smaller group and better views. Private tours jump much higher.

Pick a morning departure to avoid the worst afternoon traffic. Skip any tour promising you'll see stars at home or get inside mansions – that's mostly marketing. If you're short on time or on a tight budget, you're probably better off renting a car and doing a self-guided version with a good map. The bus tour is best for first-timers who want the stories and don't mind the group experience.
