Expect to spend 2–3 hours walking barefoot through a series of large-scale immersive installations. You’ll wade through knee-deep water, stand inside glowing flower meadows that react to your movement, and move through mirrored rooms filled with floating spheres and light. It’s genuinely sensory and photogenic, but it can feel crowded and the water areas get slippery. The experience is physical: you’ll get wet to the knees, so roll up your pants and prepare to have cold, damp feet for a while. It’s more participatory theme-park-meets-art than a traditional museum.

Best time is weekday mornings right after opening or late afternoon on a weekday. Avoid weekends and Japanese holidays completely if you can. Spring and autumn are ideal; summer is humid and the water feels nicer then, but winter means cold wet feet. Expect to pay around $45–65 per adult depending on the date and whether you buy timed tickets in advance. Kids are cheaper.

Honest tips: Buy timed-entry tickets ahead or you’ll waste an hour in the queue. Do the water garden and the floating flower room; skip lingering too long in the mirrored ball room if it’s packed — it’s the most crowded and least unique part.
