Uetliberg Mountain Hike from Zurich

This is an easy, rewarding half-day trip that gives you proper views without going far. A comfortable train ride gets you from Zurich main station to the top in about 20 minutes. At the summit you'll find a lookout tower with 360° views over the city, lake, and distant Alps on clear days. Most people then walk the pleasant ridge trail toward Felsenegg (about 1.5–2 hours one way), a gentle path through forest and open meadows. The route is well-signed, mostly flat after the initial climb, and popular with families and trail runners. Expect a mix of locals and tourists; it never feels remote but still delivers fresh air and proper mountain scenery.

Best time is late spring through early autumn. June–September gives the most reliable clear skies and wildflowers; autumn can be stunning with golden light but bring a jacket. Avoid winter unless you want snow and icy paths. Expect to pay around CHF 15–35 total per person: a return train ticket is the biggest chunk, with small extras for the tower, a drink at the summit restaurant, or an optional cable-car descent if your legs are tired.

Pick the ridge walk to Felsenegg and ride the train both ways; it's the simplest and most satisfying option. Skip the tower if it's crowded or you're short on time—the views from the plateau are already excellent. Bring water, wear proper shoes even though it's easy, and check the weather forecast—clouds can roll in fast and kill the views.
