Fushimi Inari Taisha is the head shrine of over thirty thousand Inari shrines throughout Japan, established in 711 AD and now known worldwide as one of Kyoto's most iconic sights. Visitors come to pray for bountiful harvests, business prosperity, family safety, and other wishes, while touring the shrine and the 233-meter-high sacred mountain Inariyama with its thousands of torii gates and smaller shrines throughout the precinct.
