Glide by rowboat across Melissani's underground lake when the midday sun hasn't yet hit the collapsed cave roof, then descend into Drogarati's cathedral-like chamber. Both are genuinely singular geology, not manufactured spectacle.
What to expect
A local oarsman rows you slowly across the sunken lake inside Melissani, pointing out where the cave roof collapsed thousands of years ago. At Drogarati, a short walk down leads to a vast chamber occasionally used for its acoustics. Both stops together take under two hours including transfer.
Good to know
Go first thing — the light shaft into Melissani is best between 11am-1pm but the crowds are worst then too, so an early private driver who times it right is worth arranging in advance.
