Step into a working Karatsu-yaki kiln with a master potter, watch centuries-old techniques, and try the wheel yourself.
What to expect
You'll watch a master demonstrate the distinctive Karatsu glazing and wabi-sabi aesthetic prized by tea masters for 400 years, then sit at the wheel yourself under quiet, patient guidance. Pieces are fired and can be shipped home later. The studio is unpolished and real, sawdust and clay dust included.
Good to know
Book ahead as kilns run limited slots; allow 2 hours plus travel. Piece firing/shipping takes weeks, so this is a keepsake to arrive after your cruise ends.
