A brief, well-timed climb to Karatsu Castle's keep for sweeping views over the bay and Niji-no-Matsubara pine forest.
What to expect
The reconstructed keep houses a small museum on the Terasawa clan and Karatsu's samurai history, but the real reward is the top-floor view: the harbor, the pine forest arcing along the coast, and the sea beyond. The surrounding park is pleasant for a short walk afterward. It's a compact, worthwhile stop rather than a half-day commitment.
