Fort William Historical Park: Living 1816 Fur Trade Post

Step into North America's largest reconstructed fur trade post, with costumed interpreters recreating daily life at the height of the North West Company.

What to expect

You wander the palisaded fort's dozens of buildings — trading post, canoe yard, farm, and Anishinaabe encampment — as costumed staff in period role demonstrate blacksmithing, canoe-building, and cooking over open hearths. It's the real site of the historic Rendezvous, the annual gathering point of voyageurs, traders and First Nations that once made this the heart of the continental fur trade. A knowledgeable interpreter can walk you through the layered history at a pace that suits your group.
